The Department of Mechanics, as a key element of the Physics and Mathematics Sciences Division of Simón Bolívar University, is an academic and administrative unit in charge of the design, planning, coordination, evaluation and implementation of the curriculum related to the theoretical and related sciences of Static and Dynamic of Solids, Rational Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Polymers, Mechanics of Materials, and Manufacturing Processes. Its main objective is to design and implement courses related to any of the following major areas:

a) Fluid/Thermal Science
b) Mechanics of Materials and Design
c) Design and Manufacturing
d) Rational Mechanics, Mechanical Vibration and Acoustics

The Faculty at Mechanical Department is active in the research, development and extension of the most promising areas in theoretical and applied mechanics.

The Department teaches annually around 100 subjects belonging to the curricula of Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Doctorate of Science in Mechanical Engineering, also the following under-graduate Engineering Studies curricula: Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Production Engineering and Architecture, as well as the degrees for Technician in Business Organization, Techician in Electric Circuits and Technician in Electronics.
